Development continues on the theme today as we test out new configuration options. Yes, I know, it’s not for the members to see, but it means one more thing … we’re one step closer to being able to release the theme for purchase and download! That’s right, something that was considered a longshot in 2018 is now something we’re aiming for in 2021.
One of the hardest things for us to do was to develop a reliable system where we could change just one piece of information and have it show up across multiple areas of the website. We had the ability to have the information posted 6 different times, but when we change one piece of information, we would sometimes forget that we had to change it 6 different times. Today, I am happy to announce that general theme configuration is now done through one specific file, not 4. To clarify, we had 4 separate files to show information to 9 different user groups (Grouped into 6):
- Administrators & Managers (1)
- Moderators (1)
- Authors, Contributors & Editors (ACE) (2)
- VIP Members (2)
- Regular Members (3)
- Site Visitors (4)
As I have pointed out before (more times than I can probably count at this point), about 98% of this has been just me. I’ve had a few ideas here and there from my business partner (and friend) that have made things better, but it’s been me for the most part. I am super proud of the direction of Team Falcon, and just when I think I’m out of ideas, more keep coming in! Thank you all so very much for the support you have given me these last 2 years. It’s been fun, and it’s only gonna get better from here on out!
To recap, when I started programming the Team Falcon design (originally just Joe’s World until I had the idea to expand and develop the Falcon brand), ideas were popping up left and right for what I wanted to do and I had a long, long road I had to go down to get where I am today. Since 2018, Team Falcon has had the following (key) changes:
- Updated blog post headers to show the date, time and author of each blog post
- Permalinks added for direct post access so you can share with your friends on popular social media sites
- Updated navigation bar (with plugin support) to expand the header even further1
- Modernized and rounded edges on all navigation and news boxes
- Added support for Post Tags
- Comment box can be hidden if disabled
- VIP Member Support2
- Forum Shortcuts2
- Social Media Network2
1 Feature has to be manually installed and configured to operate correctly
2 Feature will not be included outside of the Team Falcon Network
And, again … this is just the beginning. There’s still a long way to go before 2021, especially with the Coronavirus still heavily impacting the economy across the globe. More details on the release of the design will happen at a later date, and due to the nature of the idea, there will be some extensive testing needed.
