Hey guys, Joe here. The people behind Team Falcon are fortunate enough to be able to work from home and be able to continue to make some enhancements to your Team Falcon viewing experience, and that has been our mission for the longest time. However, things kinda changed when the Coronavirus came into the United States of America from China. Non-essential businesses are closed, parks are closed, public & private schools closed in March and will not be able to return until September. Just yesterday, I had seen that some very popular businesses may not be able to even recover from this shutdown and not open when the “Stay Home” order is lifted on May 4th, and when you have a fear of waking up and not knowing if you have a job or not … not because of a fault caused by you, but the economy, that’s probably the scariest feeling of all.
Going back to how things are changing for Team Falcon. Yes, we’re all working from the comfort of our private homes, but when you can’t exactly go anywhere to empty your mind, that can prove to make things difficult at times, especially for someone like me who deals with anxiety & depression. And, this is something I don’t like to bring out to the public. No, I’m not ashamed of it, mostly because there are millions of people all over the world who deal with that sort of thing.
Sometimes, it’s not easy to get past some of the thoughts in your head, including suicide. Fortunately for me, I have yet to encounter those feelings on a long-term scale. But, that doesn’t mean you are. If you need someone to talk to, I am opening up my e-mail to you guys. Unfortunately, I can only speak English. In other words, if you can read this, please feel free to contact me and tell me what’s on your mind.
The Coronavirus is a huge deal right now. People are scared, and other people are dying. You’re not alone, OK?
3 new categories are available in the forums as of now. Whether you want to talk about Movies, Music or Television … the choices are now there! As a reminder, you must be logged into your Team Falcon account to be able to use the forums. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here. More forums are coming soon, and we’ll also be adding new features and integrations very soon (including new site achievements).
Recently, we started a new project with PeepSo powering Team Falcon social as it was the most customizable compared to other options when adding to WordPress. However, an unfortunate glitch with its programming has caused the entire thing to crash. With this issue, Team Falcon is moving on to just our forums. We’re slightly disappointed about this change, but when our forums can basically tackle 2 things at once (Social Networking & Discord), I think we’re at a win-win here. I was looking forward to expanding our Social Network drastically in the near future, but seeing as that’s no longer possible, we’ll have to make due with what we have.
On the bright side, we can directly link to forum posts where we couldn’t do that with Discord.
The Team Falcon Forums are available for viewing, and we’re in the process of building the entire system. Since our new forums are integrated into our social network, we officially have our first VIP perk to announce! In the forums, you do have the capability to send private messages to each other. Our non-paying members won’t have this luxury. Once our Social network expands, we will not be disabling chat features for our basic members. Also, because our new forums have private messaging, we will be removing the Private Messaging feature that we introduced a couple months ago via a WordPress plugin.
Please keep in mind that our forums are pretty bare at the moment, but we plan to add so much more to it in the coming days. As always, we welcome your suggestions! Thank you for being a part of Team Falcon!
In the last few posts, I have touched base on WordPress plugins and the spectacular things that can be done with websites using these plugins (if done right, of course). Today, I am proud to introduce Dark Mode to you guys! With exception to the site’s logo and the tabbed menus on top, the rest of the colors on each page are basically inverted. The best part about it? Dark Mode is independent to each and every single one of you! To activate Dark Mode on Team Falcon, look for the black circle on the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
This feature is not available on mobile devices as the technology behind our mobile app is different. We’ve been wanting to add a Dark Mode option for a little while, but this isn’t quite the idea I had for it. Modifications to Dark Mode are possible in the future. Enjoy!
With WordPress plugins, the possibilities are endless with customization for themes, and considering I created this theme from scratch just 2 years ago, I’m still finding themes to make the Team Falcon experience worth so much more. A couple weeks ago, I did something so bizarre with this theme that … while different, it was (sometimes) hard to look at because the tabbed browsing has been part of the theme since its original creation in 2007.
The new way looked really good, I will say that much. But, I couldn’t figure out what to do with all the whitespace. The same WP plugin that created the new menus was actually more customizable than originally thought, and I did some experimenting to create the new tabbed browsing area. And, because the new navigation is maintained by a plugin, I was able to remove some (no longer) key theme files that aren’t needed, thus saving storage space. And again, because the new navigation is maintained by a plugin, creating items for the menu is 100 times more efficient and item creation time is down from 3 minutes to 10 seconds! When doing navigation changes, this was very time consuming before.
There are a couple visual changes as well. First, you will see that the tab edges are now rounded giving it a much smoother look. And (not that it really matters), the bottom of the active tab shows a line where it didn’t before. I might play with the code a little bit more to see if I can get that removed. If not, it’s really not that big of a deal. The point is to show you what active tab you’re on. The best part about all of this is the new added menus when you put your mouse over certain tabs. Even when you click on a link on one of those new menus, the tab still shows active!
The other thing that we’re adding is “Help” articles/pages. Team Falcon has expanded so much in 2 years that there’s gonna be some confusion with how things work. Team Falcon VIP, Falcon Live, Team Falcon+, Discord … We want to help eliminate some of that confusion and tell you how things work, where they are, and what you can/can’t do there. This change will also (hopefully) slow down (if not stop) the e-mails from confused visitors. Not that it was a bad thing, but replying to all messages can (again) be time consuming.
Team Falcon is happy to announce the rollout of Team Falcon Mobile. This service is exclusive to mobile devices (tablet, phone, iPod Touch, etc.) and will not work on Windows 10 or any other desktop based Operating System (including Xbox & PlayStation). This addition was (finally) made because reading and navigating the site on a mobile device is next to impossible, so we wanted to work on a project that would help remedy that situation. We’re working on a lot of fun ideas to make everybody’s experience enjoyable no matter what device they’re on. Please remember, not everything will be perfect right out of the gate, and we ask that if you’re running into an issue to please let us know. The more feedback we have, the better the site can be … not just for viewing, but programming as well.
While we have talked about Team Falcon VIP and how much that feature has been integrated into the site (believe me, I’m still hyped about the header), the newest change that took a little longer than expected was the site navigation. For 13 years, the tabbed navigation has done well for everything we’ve done. Now that we’re moving on to the next level with partnerships & social networking, it’s getting to be about the time we move on to bigger and better things. But, in the case of coding, these new menus are actually smaller and do twice as much.
Ladies & Gentlemen,
It is my honor and privilege to announce Team Falcon 3.0. While version 2.5 was just released 2 months ago, we ran into some issues behind the scenes that caused our entire network to go down unexpectedly. Some of the problems from before the site going down still linger, but we consider it beneficial in a sense.
So, what happened? Well, we were running into a problem that was disabling the ability to edit files from within the WordPress CP, and thinking it was a programming error, we had the intention to reset everything and upload things back to the way they were. However, we didn’t realize that we were very limited on SQL servers and ended up losing everything (including user accounts) when we unintentionally deleted the one that we needed. At the same time, we were (intentionally) in the process of removing our beta site and combining the services of the boss’s blog (Joe’s World) and incorporating the features we want to test there instead.
What’s new with Falcon 3?
With influence from The Xbox Universe, we are introducing a new social network that’s actually powered inside Team Falcon and integrates our network even more than ever before! Connect with your friends, make new friends, and do things that we thought that would never happen here! We’re still working on ironing out the kinks, but everything is looking amazing at this point! Get more information from our official post!
Header* Our header has been completely redesigned for Falcon 3, removing one of the original features of the design and moving on to something entirely new to match our new social presence area when you’re signed in to your account. The new menus allow for the most expandability and cleanliness in the design. A detailed blog entry on this change is coming soon.
Comments/Reactions Our comments area got a HUGE upgrade that further integrates into our new exclusive social network. Every comment made to our posts will also be reflected on that author’s site blog (look here for an example). Same with reactions to the posts. And, we have one of the most requested Facebook reactions, too … Dislike!
Falcon Live With the help of our newly updated header, our Falcon Live service has received a major update to better accommodate all of our video services (Twitch, Mixer, YouTube), and also has more room for future developments.
Team Falcon Mobile Viewing the Team Falcon sites are easier than ever with the rollout of the all-new Mobile theme! Check out Team Falcon on your phone or tablet today!
Team Falcon VIP The second biggest change to the site is our VIP improvements. First, VIP members will have a new header that says Team Falcon VIP instead of Team Falcon. This will signal that your VIP membership is active. Team Falcon VIP was formerly known as Falcon Live VIP and exclusively a part of our Discord server. To better suit our services, the VIP portion of our Discord server is now known as Team Falcon+. Team Falcon+ is just Discord and will remain free. But, for $2 a month (or $20 a year), you can get some pretty cool perks! From a nifty exclusive badge to some premium features in our social networking area! Don’t worry, basic things will remain free.
* The site header is the biggest feature of Falcon 3. Not all of our sites will be receiving all of Falcon 3’s features right out of the gate. While you may be seeing a site with Falcon 3 installed, there is some coding that has to be done in the back end.
When we first started Team Falcon Social, we were hosting it through a website called Mighty Networks, and there was a lot of innovation behind it. However, there were some limitations that allowed us to do things entirely our way without paying a monthly fee for it. While the Team Falcon staff stand behind the support of other businesses (like Mighty Networks), we were continuing to find other ways to fully integrate the social aspect of things into the website. And today, that’s exactly what happened!
Along with a majority of the features from Mighty Networks, there’s even more that can be done and we’re not having to pay monthly fees, but yearly fees for what we want! Throughout the year, Team Falcon Social is gonna get new enhancements, new features, and have some things integrated with Team Falcon VIP. No, we’re not gonna charge for our social features … that’s just stupid! The only integration we’re talking about is that our VIP members will get a special badge next to their name on their profile as a “thank you” for your support to our group! Other things to look forward to soon include:
Groups: Public, private, whatever! D&D, Warcraft, Xbox … you name it, you have fun with it! Tons of features will be at your disposal!
Polls: Do you want to make lasagna or spaghetti? Can’t decide? Get your friends to do it for you!
Chat*: Instant chat is always nice, right? Whether it’s a chat between you and a friend or with a group of people, the possibilities are endless!
Friends: Of course you want to make friends on Team Falcon Social! Whether they’re longtime friends, or people you just met through this awesome community!
Photos: Did you take some awesome photos during your vacation? Share them with your friends on Team Falcon in an album or in a live chat!
Audio/Video: Just like pictures, you can share audio & video the same exact way!
* When Team Falcon Social gets the new chat feature, the current Team Falcon Messaging feature will be removed as our new chat feature will do everything that the current messaging feature can do … and then some.
